Who are we?
Fundación Wayanuha is a community‑centered nonprofit dedicated to uplifting immigrant families and underserved communities through compassion, education, and equitable access to opportunity. We believe every person, regardless of their country of origin, culture, or immigration journey, deserves dignity, stability, and a real chance to thrive.
The name Wayanuha, a Garífuna word meaning “let’s talk” or “I am listening,” reflects our commitment to creating spaces where people feel heard, supported, and empowered. Founded by Melida Escobar, a Garífuna and Hispanic woman with lived immigrant experience, the organization was built on a deep understanding of the challenges families face as they navigate new systems and rebuild their lives. Although we are a state‑based organization, our doors and our hearts are open to all communities. We serve individuals and families from Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, and every background represented in our diverse neighborhoods. Through compassionate immigration support, transformative education, community advocacy, and access to safe housing and real estate resources, we help families build strong foundations for their future.
At Fundación Wayanuha, we don’t just provide services—we walk alongside our community as they pursue stability, opportunity, and a true sense of belonging.
